City Council Approves Final Plans for Rebuilding Sequoia

REDWOOD CITY, CA - August 28, 2007 - Sequoia Hospital received unanimous approval from the Redwood City City Council last night for their plans to rebuild the hospital campus. This action is the final step in the approval process to rebuild Sequoia Hospital, including a new pavilion, medical office building and parking garage. Ground breaking ceremonies are planned for mid-November.

"We are thrilled to reach this milestone in our rebuilding process," said Glenna Vaskelis, president of Sequoia Hospital. "Our community will benefit from state-of-the-art medical care delivered in larger, private rooms with clinically advanced equipment."

Sequoia Hospital was built in 1950 and will meet all state mandated seismic requirements of California SB 1953 when the rebuilding is completed in 2012.  The hospital will remain open and fully operational during construction.

"Sequoia's proposed campus is a unique design, utilizing the existing facility and topography, incorporating new elements while meeting all seismic codes to create a new medical campus," said Doug Mayoras, Principal of Moon Mayoras Architects, Inc. "We have worked with the neighbors and surrounding community for more than two years to produce a winning design."

"Meeting the new seismic standards served as a catalyst for us to not only meet those standards but to evaluate the future health care needs of our community and plan a new medical campus designed to meet the needs of the next generations," said Vaskelis.

Sequoia's new campus will carry on a 57-year tradition of providing award-winning care to the community. The new hospital campus will include:
